This is the Darkroom Enlarger, and this was used to create the darkroom prints. To create these, you set the timer to 2 seconds, and set the height of the enlarger. On the enlarger head, their are 4 different coloured options that you can set, but for this, you just set magenta to 45. After this you can then place your paper on the easel, but cover it so you can only see a strip. Here you then keep exposing your paper to the light until all your paper is exposed, and then with the shiny side facing down, but it into an Ilford print processer, and about 60 seconds later you will have your test print.
You can also use this technique on pictures of your own, to show there being a difference in how much light has been exposed on one part of your picture, to another.
