Secondary Research- 6 Different Animation Types

For my secondary research I have looked at the different animations I could use to create my own product, as there are many different types of animation, and these are just 6 of the most used processes.

Traditional animation was one of the first types on animation styles to be created, and this is where the pictures for each frame are separately hand drawn. This was the best and most used animation type until computer animation came along. I think that this type of animation doesn't really need to be used anymore, as it takes so long, unless you want a certain older look for the movie.

Computer animation is were an animation is created digitally using a computer application. There are both 2D and 3D animations that can be created on the computer, and whilst this type of animation has been around since the 1960s, it only started to becoming popular in the 1990s. I like this type of animation because it is a lot faster to create, meaning that longer animations are more likely to be created.

Simple animations came before any other animation, and this type of animation was created by things like the zoetrope. If you want an animation to look old to make it look from a certain era, then I think using this type of animation technique would make it look more authentic

Stop-Motion animation is one of the more popular animation that are used today, and I like this style of animation because it allows it to have a unique look, as it is just pictures placed quickly next to each other, which creates an unusual effect. Especially when the objects that are taken are made from clay, the outcomes are different from any other techniques used before.

Motion capture is another way to create animations on the computer, but this technique makes the video come out as more realistic images, as they use real people with sensors attached to their bodies and faces that pick up their movements, which they then transfer to a digitally made character, to help them to move in a more lifelike manner.

Cut-out animation is not as popular as some of the other techniques on this list, but it is still widely used to this day. This is where images are cut out using things like paper, card or even photographs, to create flat characters that can slowly be moved around a flat background, making it very similar to stop motion animation, but its all 2D. The worlds earliest feature film was made out of cut-outs, which was in 1917. I like this type of animation as again its quite unique from the others, and even though it is old, it can be made more modern as the cut-outs can be created from more things, and if they were created out of photos, they could now be of better quality.
